Dear ones,
One topic is very important to me and has been on my mind a lot recently. It is #SustainableLeadership.
Katja Fobbe, thank you also for your impulse today and Gerold Wolfarth for our exchange on these topics.
Marcel Adämmer Many thanks to you too for the many joint “sparring partner discussions” on this.
In my opinion, companies have a particularly strong responsibility these days. It’s a triad of environmental protection, employee health and sustainably successful business.
As CEO of the etree Group, Mailing Papierverarbeitung GmbH and Konsultec, I am also responsible for the long-term and strategic orientation of the companies and try to live up to this claim every day.
But what is sustainable leadership?
In my opinion, sustainable leadership is the endeavor to act with consideration for the environment, social responsibility and economic success. The ultimate goal is therefore to harmonize people (both stakeholders and shareholders), the planet and profit. This alone is a very exciting challenge for me.
Who is a sustainable leader and what characterizes them?
They are the managers who focus not only on immediate, short-term profits, but also on the role of their company in society. They define the comprehensive strategies that include social, environmental and financial performance.
The following competencies must be present in a sustainable leader:
– Mindset focused on sustainability – Care about the environment and fellow human beings, not just yourself
– Focus on building relationships – network, connect and collaborate with stakeholders in a long-term perspective.
– Incorporate systems thinking – see the big picture, analyze the situation in the market and be able to act quickly. Avoid silo thinking, I like to say.
What is your opinion on this? Is it an important approach or is it just another buzzword of today? Leave your opinion in the comments! I would be delighted to read them!
